Description:

The Head of ENT department serves as the top leader of the department. He provides direction and control over all department activities. He supervises, coordinates and monitors the care provided in the department to promote efficient and effective delivery of quality health care. Performs the professional duties of an Otorhinolaryngologist & Ensures the smooth functioning of the ENT department.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible to develop and implement policies/ procedures/ plans/ SOPs/clinical guidelines/pathways of the department.
Responsible for implementing a unit specific quality improvement and patient safety program/initiative.
Responsible for identification, selection and monitoring of measures specific to the department or service, assess data, plan change, and sustain improvements in quality and patient safety.
Responsible to ensure complete and timely training and education of staff on quality improvement process such as but not limited to, prevention and control of infection, emergency disaster response, fire safety, Hazmat, spill management, etc.
Responsible for monitoring and coordination of the quality improvement and patient safety program and initiatives.
Responsible for monitoring incidents and sentinel events, and taken action and to sustain, to improve safety in response to events.
Responsible to support culture of safety program and implement, monitor, and take action to improve the program in the department.
Responsible for carrying out the evaluation/performance appraisal for the staffs in their department.
To perform the professional duties of an endocrinologist in accordance with the delineation of privileges as recommended and approved by the Credentials Committee.
Supervises and co-ordinates the day to day activities of the Otorhinolaryngology service.
Ensures Performs professional duties of an Otorhinolaryngologist.
Provides consultation to other physicians when the problems fall into the field of ear, nose, throat, head and neck surgery, and require the attention of a specialist. This includes diagnosis and treatment if patient's primary problem is in this field.
Completes medical records promptly indicating diagnosis, treatment, and future courses of action. Records must conform to established requirements.
Participates in all group conferences requiring the viewpoint and opinions of this specialty regarding difficult medical cases.
Coordinates with the Medical Director in planning programs, integrating the curative and preventive aspects of total patient care.
Oversees and monitors and participates in Quality assurance programs as requested by the Medical Director.
Prepares and submits to the Medical Director for approval the daily work schedule, weekend schedules, ER oncall schedule after working hours, personal leaves and expat. Vacation.
Supervises correct and efficient use of supplies and equipment provided to cut down on expenditure and eliminate waste.
Collaborates with other departmental personnel in planning programs integrating the curative and preventive aspects of total patient care. Is responsible for the operation of approved curative-preventive programs as they relative to his particular field.
Participates in the development and maintenance of professional quality standards and makes recommendations to the Medical Director for improvement of such standards.
 Works closely with other Department Heads in developing policies and procedures to promote quality health care.
Orients new staff when requested to do so.
Daily answers questions concerning irregular work and problems that arise in the group such as handling technical, safety and accident problems.
Monitors work of other assigned staff to the Otorhinolaryngology Service for quality, quantity, correctness, etc., demonstrating procedures or recommending additional training as required.
Utilizes and monitors to ensure that unit personnel use supporting services (nursing, operation support,
pathology, radiology etc.) in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.
Submits direct charge order requests to the Medical Director for signature approval.
Keeps the Medical Director informed of problems encountered. Recommends change in established policy, rules or regulations where pertinent.
Plans and maintains daily work schedules necessary for required performance of all Department functions, including leaves of absence, vacations, holiday and weekend schedules, and emergency on-call schedules after working hours.
Participates on committees as requested by the Medical Director.
Assures that all medical regulations are observed by assigned personnel to the degree delegated by supervisor.
Advises assigned personnel as concerns infringement of medical or Company rules that prevent assignments or responsibilities of the group to be properly met.
Strives to maintain current trends in Otorhinolaryngology.
Maintains a cordial and professional atmosphere at all times.
Maintains a professional appearance and manner at all times.
Maintains current knowledge of policies and procedures.
Ensures that all Otorhinolaryngologist maintain a professional demeanor at all times
Monitors clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance.
Strictly observes organization’s medical regulations and policies especially those related to infection control,patient safety, patient assessment and patient care.
Performs other miscellaneous duties as requested by the Medical Director.
Comply with all OSH (Occupational safety and health) and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements.
Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities.
Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports.
Comply with Waste management procedures and policies.
Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills, and awareness programs.
Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
Ensure as far as reasonably practicable that any workplaces they manage, or control are safe and without risks to health, safety, or the environment.
Ensure implementation of applicable HAAD, NMCRH OSHMS and infection control policies and standards.
Designating a Safety facilitator who will be responsible for coordinating OSH activities within the department.
Regularly discuss OSH issues or matters in departmental/ management meetings
Ensure provision of OSH information, training and Supervision
Implement and monitor effectiveness of risk management program
 

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an approved medical school plus internship
Three years residency in Ear, Nose and Throat and/or equivalent Fellowships approved by DOH
 Must have DOH License to practice
Five or more year’s exclusive practice of Ear, Nose and Throat since certification
English is required to prepare documentation and it is used as the common language to communicate with different nationalities. Basic knowledge of medical Arabic desirable
Must have a thorough knowledge of medical ethics with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work. Personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients and adhere to by laws,
