Description:

The College of Health Sciences (CoHS) at Abu Dhabi University (ADU) invites outstanding candidates to apply for the full-time faculty position in Clinical Nutrition at the level of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. The starting date of the appointment is August 2023. The successful candidate will be involved in teaching and developing undergraduate and graduate-level courses, contributing to research within ADU and abroad, and supervising students in their practicum.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Teach undergraduate courses to students in the Human Nutrition and Dietetics (HND) Program such as Nutritional Metabolism, Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) courses, Assessment of Nutritional Status, etc. May teach graduate level courses once the graduate program is opened.

  1. Develop and maintain an active applied, translational, or social science research program focused on nutrition intervention issues related to non-communicable/chronic diseases.
  2. Advance and disseminate knowledge through publication in appropriate refereed journals.
  3. Advice, mentor, and evaluate undergraduate seminars, tutorials, and student research projects.

5. Plan hands-on activities within didactic courses to fulfill clinical nutrition-related knowledge and competencies such as case studies, role-playing techniques, simulations, group discussions, and projects.

  1. Assist in organizing MNT rotations with affiliated hospital sites for HND practicum.
  2. Ensure practicum clinical rotation requirements and competencies are met.
  3. Perform ongoing review of curriculum and practicum activities to meet the accreditation standards.
  4. Facilitate continuous assessment of the program - both didactic and practicum - and student learning outcomes.
  5. Develop and maintain awareness on prevention of non-communicable disease in the UAE community.
  6. Function as an active member of the college and university faculty through the participation in academic and professional services.
  7. Engage in national and international professional activities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Use strategies and skills necessary to support student learning and prepare and deliver current and relevant course material in an understandable and motivating manner.

2. Continually assess course objectives and instructional methods to improve teaching and learning.

3. Use formative and summative assessments of student learning within assigned courses to inform instruction and improve student attainment of course objectives and program outcomes.

4. Demonstrate a familiarity with a variety of instructional delivery methods, including on-line learning, digital platforms, group activities, portfolios to provide educational content and opportunities supported by evidence-based research and individual expertise.

5. Demonstrate a familiarity with Blackboard and other learning management systems.

6. Prepare comprehensive course syllabus, to include approved student learning objectives/outcome evaluation form.

7. Work collaboratively with the program faculty, affiliated sites, and other academic units, as well as government agencies to effectively address Abu Dhabi and national program priorities related to professional Nutrition and Dietetics practice, especially related to the spread of non-communicable diseases.

8. Be familiar with the ACEND accreditation standards and ensure with other faculty and administrators that they met.

9. Teach courses related to clinical nutrition for the BSc. program in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

10. Supervise the clinical nutrition component of the practicum.

11. Direct students’ research and conduct research in collaboration with others.

12. Perform student academic advisement, hold office hours, and provide support to students with regard to program choices and career possibilities.

13. Support ADU’s outcomes initiatives by working to refine and revise course assignments and evaluation tools and participating in data analysis discussions to make program and course improvements.

14. Facilitate development and revision of curricula and courses, assuring alignment within the program description and outcomes, course objectives and content, as well as university/Commission for Academic Accreditation curriculum standards.

15. Attend commencement, faculty meetings, department meetings, committee meetings, professional development programs, and other university events, as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. PhD. in Clinical Nutrition or related disciplines such as nutrition, metabolism, and/or sports nutrition from an internationally accredited university, preferably from top 200 universities as per the QS World University Rankings 2022
  2. Minimum of 3 years of teaching/precepting or experience in clinical nutrition or related practice
  3. Proven record of teaching, program planning, and problem-solving skills
  4. A record of peer-reviewed publications, as judged by h-index (10 for Assistant Professor, 15 for Associate Professor, and 25 for Professor).
  5. Familiarity with and adherence to ACEND accreditation standards
  6. Familiarity with or ability to become familiar with the grant university system and its mission on academic excellence and community outreach.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  8. Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist (RDN) status is preferred
  9. Dietitian license in the UAE or equivalent
