Description:
We are seeking a skilled Indoor and Outdoor Thermal Comfort Modeller to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, simulating, and optimizing thermal comfort conditions in both indoor and outdoor environments. Using advanced modeling tools, you will provide insights to support architectural design, HVAC systems, and urban outdoor spaces to ensure energy efficiency and occupant comfort. This role requires a strong understanding of building physics, climate-responsive design, and environmental modeling software.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Thermal Comfort Modeling: Perform detailed simulations and assessments of indoor and outdoor thermal comfort using software such as EnergyPlus, DesignBuilder, ENVI-met, Ladybug/Honeybee, and other relevant tools.
Data Collection and Analysis: Gather and analyze data on thermal comfort conditions using field measurements (e.g., temperature, humidity, air velocity) and integrate them into simulation models.
Building and Outdoor Space Assessment: Evaluate building design and outdoor spaces for their impact on occupant comfort, considering factors such as solar exposure, wind flow, shading, and natural ventilation.
Collaboration with Design Teams: Work closely with architects, engineers, and urban planners to propose design improvements that enhance thermal comfort, including HVAC strategies, passive design measures, and landscape features.
Energy and Comfort Optimization: Optimize the thermal comfort of indoor environments by simulating and adjusting building systems (e.g., HVAC, insulation, glazing, shading devices) and materials.
Urban Microclimate Analysis: Conduct outdoor comfort assessments, including microclimate modeling to mitigate heat islands and improve comfort in urban landscapes, parks, and outdoor public spaces.
Documentation and Reporting: Produce detailed technical reports, comfort maps, and graphical visualizations of thermal comfort conditions to inform design decisions and support regulatory compliance (e.g., ASHRAE Standard 55, ISO 7730).
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with thermal comfort standards and sustainability certifications (LEED, WELL, BREEAM) in all projects.
Stakeholder Engagement: Present findings to clients, project teams, and stakeholders, providing expert recommendations on design interventions for improved comfort.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Building Physics, or a related field. Specialization in thermal comfort modeling or environmental design is preferred.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in building performance analysis or environmental design, with a focus on thermal comfort modeling. Experience with urban microclimate analysis is an advantage.
