Qualifications:
- Education: B.Sc. in Entomology or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in taxonomy or related work.
- Skills: Strong analytical and technical skills, familiarity with statistical tools and laboratory practices.
Job Description:
- The Taxonomy Technician will report directly to the Entomologist and play a critical role in supporting the entomology laboratory and field operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all Entomology Laboratory Key Functions and purposes as specified in RTF Item 18.7.3.
- Develop and maintain dichotomous and interactive keys for identifying urban pests.
- Study the effects of physico-chemical parameters on mosquito larvae population dynamics.
- Rear urban pests such as cockroaches, flies, and mosquitoes for experimental purposes.
- Conduct laboratory and field evaluations of pesticides in accordance with guidelines from OECD, WHO, or EPA.
- Use statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Minitab) to analyze experimental data and prepare comprehensive technical reports.
- Identify pests, prepare detailed reports, and preserve specimens for future reference.
- Maintain proper records of inspections, pest control treatments, and laboratory procedures.
- Record observations, provide recommendations, and assist in planning pest control measures.
- Order, organize, and maintain laboratory materials and supplies.
- Ensure full compliance with Abu Dhabi Public Health Center Technical Guidelines for laboratory procedures, including the collection and rearing of pests.
- Recommend repairs and support major actions to prevent or control infestations.
- Complete any additional tasks assigned by the Entomologist.
Key Skills and Knowledge:
- Familiarity with pest taxonomy and identification techniques.
- Experience in rearing and handling urban pests.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and technical report writing.
- Knowledge of laboratory and field safety guidelines.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Familiarity with Abu Dhabi Public Health Center Technical Guidelines is a plus.
